Research coordinator HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis Department
Maria Cristina Pimenta de Oliveira- “ Cristina Pimenta”, is a Psychologist with a Masters degree in Education, and a PhD in Collective Health. She has worked with HIV prevention for over twenty five years. As a project specialist and international consultant, she has acquired extensive experience in public health, education, public health and social policies and programs globally.
From 1996 to 2000, she was Chief of Prevention for the National HIV/AIDS Program and coordinated the structuring of the national diagnosis and prevention programs and service delivery network at the national, State and Municipal levels.
From 2000 to 2010 also acted in the nongovernmental HIV/AIDS and human rights scene as executive director of one of the larger AIDS NGO in Brazil developed work with most vulnerable populations, and in the areas of intellectual property rights and social science research, and acted as an international consultant for several UN organizations.
She has worked as an HIV specialist with UNAIDS in Geneva in 2005, served as member of the WHO strategic technical advisory committee for HIV/AIDS (STAC) from 2007-2011, and as member of the Global Fund Technical Review Panel from 2012-2016. Presently, she is the research coordinator for the Brazilian Ministry of Health National HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis Department, and Professor of the Nursing School of the Veiga de Almeida University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
