What are the lessons, particularly on introducing and scaling innovations in the COVID response? How can we build a resilient system for health? +SUMMARY

COVID-19 pandemic is one of the ‘most dangerous challenges’ the world has faced. This virus is unprecedented in our lifetime and requires an unprecedented response. COVID19 continues to challenge not only global health but threatens our collective progress towards sustainable development goals. COVID19 also highlighted the vulnerabilities that we face in health care – globally one out of two people don’t have access to basic health care and over 100m people fall into extreme poverty annually due to health care costs. The global COVID response needs to draw on human creativity, ingenuity and innovation to defeat this virus and at the same time build resilient systems for health for the future. The broad health and innovations community has risen to the challenge by finding new solutions or rapidly repurposing existing solutions to respond to the challenges of COVID19. However, building resilient systems for health will require a collective, multisectoral, multi-stakeholder effort that leverages social and technology driven innovations that deepen health care access and resilience.
