Dorian Emmett, in his current role as Advisor to the CEO, divides his work commitments between his home base in Johannesburg at Anglo American’s Corporate Office and the Head Office of the company, which is located in Central London.

Dorian’s career in the mining industry spans 40 years.  Dorian spent more than 20 years with Anglo Platinum.  Following his appointment as Managing Director of Matthey Rustenburg Refineries in 1989, Dorian was appointed Technical Director at Anglo Platinum in 1994, followed two years later by his appointment to the role of Commercial Director.  Dorian’s career at Platinum culminated in his appointment in 2001 as Chief Operating Officer of the company.  His ties with Platinum are still maintained, primarily, as Chair of the Safety and Sustainability Committee of the Board, and as a member of the Social and Ethics Committee.

In 2004, he assumed the role of Global Head of Safety and Sustainable Development for Anglo American transitioning in 2014 to the role of Advisor to the Chief Executive.

He is also active in furthering dialogue between the faith community and the industry on the role of mining in society.  Recently, Dorian has had a leading role in nurturing and developing an engagement between certain mining companies and major faith groups. This pioneering activity is aimed at improving the social performance of mining companies in accordance with guidance provided by the faith community, as well as an ongoing dialogue aimed at achieving mutually beneficial outcomes for key stakeholders impacted by mining activities. Dorian lives with his wife Margie in Johannesburg.
